NEED TO KNOW
- Sonic’s new “Hotumn” drinks offer fall-inspired flavors like cherry pie and cranberry in refreshing iced beverages
- The drinks launch Aug. 24 and include creative blends with Coke, Dr Pepper, Sprite, and sweet tea
- Fall influencer Caitlin Covington stars in Sonic’s campaign celebrating autumn vibes despite summer heat
Sonic knows fall is a state of mind, and the fast-food favorite is inviting autumn lovers to embrace the season early with four “Hotumn” dirty soda flavors.
With the internet dubbing “Augtober” the unofficial start of fall, the craving for autumnal flavors hits earlier every year. Unfortunately, the weather rarely cooperates, so Sonic is celebrating “Hotumn” with a lineup of iced drinks that are cool and refreshing, but taste like apple pie and cranberries.
Available Aug. 24 at participating locations and on the Sonic app, customers can order Cherry Pie made with Coke, Blueberry Pie made with Dr Pepper, Harvest Berry made with Sprite and Cranberry Orchard Sweet Tea.
The Cherry Pie flavor is a “blend of cherry and vanilla flavors and sweet cream infused in Coca-Cola, topped with a cherry,” while the blueberry option serves up a “blend of blueberry puree, vanilla flavor and sweet cream infused in crisp Dr Pepper,” Sonic said in a press release.

Harvest Berry features a “blend of wildberry puree, cranberry and vanilla flavors infused in crisp Sprite,” and the Cranberry Orchard Sweet Tea puts a seasonal spin on the Southern classic by blending in peach puree and cranberry flavor to freshly brewed sweet tea.
Sonic is partnering with fall influencer Caitlin Covington, also known as Christian Autumn Girl, whose autumn photo shoots with her friends usher in the season online. In a new ad for the brand, Covington, 36, and her pals put on their coziest sweaters and knee-high boots to create their latest fall photos. However, behind-the-scenes they’re sweating as they try to usher in sweater weather during the dog days of summer.
“There is no way I could drink a hot spiced latte right now,” the influencer says while sipping a Sonic drink. “It’s like 95 degrees out. But mentally, it’s autumn. It’s ‘Hotumn.’ ”
Sonic defines “Hotumn” as a “season for people whose hearts say hayrides, but whose weather apps say heat advisory.”

“Sonic has been serving up fun, customizable drinks long before dirty sodas became a trend,” Ryan Dickerson, Chief Marketing Officer at Sonic, said in a statement. “In many parts of the country, it’s still way too hot for a steaming latte. We saw an opportunity to join the fall beverage conversation in a fun way and bring a little Sonic personality to a seasonal tradition people look forward to every year. We’re putting our own spin on what a fall drink moment can look like with Hotumn — and it’s not a hot drink.”
