President Donald Trump’s aide Natalie Harp has become a point of contention for the White House, sparking strong pushback from her colleagues after Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff and reporters raised questions about the 35-year-old’s role in the administration in recent days.

Ossoff, a Democrat running for reelection and a possible 2028 presidential contender, brought up Harp during a rally on Sunday, Aug. 16, while claiming the president was avoiding his responsibilities “to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie.”

White House communications director Steven Cheung slammed the Georgia senator in response, lobbing insults at Ossoff, 39. “Instead of denigrating hard working people serving their country, Jon should look deep into his soul and ask himself why he’s a miserable person who hates this country,” Cheung wrote on Monday, Aug. 17 on X.

When CNN reporter Kristen Holmes asked the president directly about Ossoff’s comments on Monday, the White House’s rapid response account wrote on X that she was “a disgraceful, humiliating embarrassment to her alleged profession.”

“@KristenhCNN: Someday, your children will come across your disgusting and inhumane question. They will be sickened and embarrassed to have a parent be so callous and vindictive. It’s quite troubling,” the account on X added. 

Here’s what you need to know about Natalie Harp.

She comes from an evangelical Christian background and is estranged from her brother

Harp was raised in California in a devout Christian family, according to multiple reports and public comments from her estranged brother, Preston Harp. 

Their father, Robert Harp, was a commercial real estate businessman and a marketing executive with advanced degrees from Christian theological institutions, according to his obituary. He later worked at a private evangelical Christian university in California.

Robert died by suicide in July 2020, Preston told the Daily Mail in June. He says the death is one reason he is estranged from Natalie.

Their mother, Jill Harp, homeschooled the pair as children, Preston told the outlet.

Natalie attended Point Loma Nazarene University, a Christian college in San Diego, according to the Religion News Service. She then earned an MBA from Liberty University in 2015, according to the prominent evangelical institution in Virginia.

Her brother told the Mail that he views his sister’s relationship with Trump as “very unhealthy.”

The White House declined to comment on her brother’s comments at the time, but then-White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called Natalie one of the “most loyal and hardest-working aides on President Trump’s team.”

She credits Trump with saving her from bone cancer

In 2019, Natalie first came to the president’s attention when she credited legislation he championed during his first term for giving her access to experimental medication for bone cancer she described as “rare and terminal” in a 2020 speech at the Republican National Convention.

After an appearance on Fox News heralding the “Right to Try” law and thanking Trump for saving her life, Trump called into Fox & Friends and said he watched the interview, calling her “that young, beautiful woman.”

“I think she’s one of the best guests you’ve ever had,” Trump said on June 14, 2019. “I think she was just one of your great guests. I thought it was amazing.”

Medical experts who examined Natalie’s story and description of her treatment raised doubts that the law was relevant to the drugs she was prescribed, according to a 2020 report from The Washington Post.

The Post noted that she claimed in a March 2018 social media post that Trump’s actions cleared the way for her chemotherapy treatment. Trump signed the “Right to Try” bill into law two months later.

Beyond the speech at the 2020 convention, Harp was given an advisory role on Trump’s campaign, according to the Post and other outlets. 

She then joined the pro-Trump news network One America News and promoted the president’s lies and conspiracies about the 2020 election being stolen from him, according to The Bulwark and The New York Times.

She left the network in April 2022, Politico reported at the time. Shortly thereafter, she joined the president in the lead-up to the 2024 campaign.

She reportedly left private notes for Trump in ‘personal spaces’: ‘You are all that matters to me’

After joining Trump in his political exile, Natalie reportedly left “adoring letters” in his “personal spaces,” according to a new book from New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan.

In Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, which was published in June, Haberman and Swan reported that one of the letters to Trump included the line: “You are all that matters to me.”

The note left future Trump 2024 campaign manager and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles confounded, Swan and Haberman reported.

The book describes Natalie accompanying the once and future president on the golf course, supplying him “with a fresh stream of positive news stories and social media comments that she would often read aloud and later follow up with copies from the portable printer she carried around.”

During a Sunday, Aug. 16, appearance on MS NOW, Haberman described Natalie as a “binky” and a “comfort blanket” for the president.

In response to Haberman’s comments on Sunday, White House spokesman Davis Ingle told PEOPLE that the longtime Times reporter “constantly speaks like she’s a Trump psychologist when in reality she just has a creepy obsession with the President and clings onto him for relevance. It’s been very sad to watch for years.”

Melania reportedly found her in Mar-a-Lago’s private quarters

In his 2025 book, Axios reporter Alex Isenstadt wrote that Natalie “surprised” first lady Melania Trump when she “stumbled upon Harp late at night in Trump’s private quarters at Mar-a-Lago, an area that was typically off-limits to those outside Trump’s family.”

Isenstadt reported that the aide “didn’t do well with boundaries” and was in the private quarters of the president’s Florida estate to deliver documents that she “didn’t want to wait until the morning to give” him.

She became Trump’s ‘human printer’ and gained control of his Truth Social account

Natalie earned the nickname the “human printer” during the years leading up to the 2024 campaign as she became a key cog of the president’s daily life in Florida, according to the Times and other outlets.

She was a frequent presence at his side on the golf course and on his way to campaign stops, armed with a portable printer and a battery pack to keep it charged, the Times reported. Trump prefers to view documents and messages in hard copy.

A Tucker Carlson-produced documentary following Trump’s return to power in 2024 showed footage of Trump dictating Truth Social posts to Natalie as Vice President Kamala Harris gave her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Once Trump won the 2024 election and returned to Washington, Natalie accompanied him and remained an “ever-present” figure in the Oval Office, according to the Times journalists’ new book, which describes her as “the most devoted of all” of his loyal aides.

“Harp was generally on a chair off to the side, her laptop open, head cocked, listening but never contributing unless ordered to by Trump,” Haberman and Swan wrote. “She fulfilled, in a flash, any request, whether a ‘Trump 2028’ that needed to be fetched from the merchandise room, a quick Google search, or producing the latest story from right-wing websites like Breitbart or Gateway Pundit.”

In late 2025, according to the book, Harp also became the White House aide with the most control over the president’s Truth Social account, where he often posts dozens of times a day.

She was also the person who showed Trump the video of ally and far-right political commentator Charlie Kirk’s killing in September 2025, according to the Times journalists.

Trump reportedly has a French nickname for her and once said, ‘She’ll never leave me’

Trump took to calling her “Nathalie,” adopting a French pronunciation, and would say that his ever-present aide was the “only one who loved him as much as his wife and kids,” according to Regime Change.

“All of you will go off and make money,” Trump was known to say, according to the book. “She’ll never leave me.”

In an email to PEOPLE in June, White House spokesman Kush Desai wrote that “no president has cultivated as much loyalty among their staffers and administration officials as President Trump; this is a testament to his commitment to our country and its people.”

“Natalie Harp is a beloved White House Official,” Desai added. “The Fake News Media will never understand what it’s like to be as trusted and admired as her.”
