NEED TO KNOW

  • Tyla has her own Bratz doll!
  • The brand made a collectible figurine in the South African singer’s likeness and inspired by her 2024 Met Gala debut
  • Tyla and Bratz creative director and president Jasmin Larian Hekmat chat with PEOPLE about the new launch at a fan meet-and-greet in N.Y.C.

“Imma have my own Tyla doll one day,” Tyla wrote on January 10, 2024, in a post on X that would eventually become a written manifestation for her most recent career milestone. Because now, the South African hitmaker is the new face of her very own doll — to be specific, her very own Bratz doll.

On July 27, the doll and media company, owned by MGA Entertainment, are officially debuting a figurine in the likeness of the artist, who said that getting the call was “a moment I’ll never forget.”

Ahead of the launch, Tyla hosted a meet-and-greet event at New York City’s FAO Schwarz with fans who were lucky enough to get their hands on the collector’s item a few days early (and in time for the release of her new album A*Pop). That’s where the “Water” singer, 24, was not shy about telling PEOPLE how much of a Bratz fan she really was and is.

“I used to put on Bratz to fall asleep. It’s just my comfort movie,” said Tyla (the franchise released an animated TV series that premiered in 2005, in addition to multiple movies). She confidently added that the most Bratz-coded thing about her is “girl, everything. I’m a fashionista.”

The well-known characteristic of the Grammy winner is what heavily inspired the doll’s design. The main look is a doll-size recreation of the custom sand-made Balmain gown she wore her Met Gala debut in 2024.

“We really wanted a look that stood the test of time, and people could immediately recognize as one of her major moments,” shared Jasmin Larian Hekmat, creative director and president of Bratz and daughter of MGA Entertainment founder and CEO Isaac Larian.

“When we make a doll in someone’s likeness, we really want them to feel like it’s something that they’ll remember forever,” she continued, adding that she knew Tyla was a “star” as soon as she saw her perform.

In addition to the dress, Tyla’s doll is unmistakably her with her signature beauty mark and braided hairstyle, which was “super hard to execute” because it was done with “actual braids attached to the rooting of the doll’s head,” said Larian Hekmat, who is also the mind and visionary behind the fashion brand Cult Gaia. The figurine’s accessories include a concert-inspired outfit change, a mini vinyl of the TYLA album and a tiger as a nod to Tyla’s fanbase.

In past years, Bratz has also collaborated with Karol G and Kylie Jenner, and when it comes to a celebrity ambassador, so to speak, Larian Hekmat said the secret is: “We always ask, are they doing something super cool, super different? Are they thinking out of the box? Are they owning who they are authentically?”

The goal for her and Tyla is that they can empower generations of Bratz fans to ask themselves the same questions.

“Just dream anything and [your dreams] might just happen,” Tyla encouraged.

“I really hope that [fans] get to be mesmerized by not only the imagination that dolls bring, but also the inspiration. The beauty of Bratz [which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year and will soon launch a Bratz-inspired podcast] is it’s inspired an entire generation to be so creative and go after their dreams. We hope that this collaboration and every single line with Bratz does the same thing.”

The Bratz x Tyla Collector Doll is available to shop on July 27 at 8 a.m. PT on bratz.com and retails for $75.
