Colman Domingo Says It Was ‘the Best Decision’ to Let His Real Husband Pick His On-Screen Husband in “The Four Seasons ”(Exclusive)

Domingo’s roles in ‘Four Seasons’ and ‘Euphoria’ earned him Emmy nominations this year

Four Seasons fans have Colman Domingo’s husband to thank for bringing Marco Calvani to their screens.

On the 2026 Emmy Awards blue carpet on Monday, Sept. 14, the 56-year-old actor, who stars in the Netflix series as Danny, tells PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly that his husband, Raúl Domingo, chose Calvani to portray his on-screen husband, Claude.

“I think that was the best decision,” Colman says. “He knew who could play off of me, and I feel like Marco is such a beautiful actor. He’s fun, he brings a bit of whimsy and he’s a great counterbalance to Danny.”

He continues, “Danny is a bit of acerbic and raw, and I think it makes it a lot of fun.”

Colman’s portrayal of Danny is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The actor reveals that even the theme of his Emmys outfit this year was The Four Seasons as he hit the carpet in a burnt orange coat with a burgundy belt.

At this year’s ceremony, the actor is also nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Ali in the HBO drama series Euphoria.

Euphoria concluded with its third season and the actor tells PEOPLE that the series finale was “one of the most emotional moments of his career.”

“We’ve been on that journey for seven years, although it was only three seasons,” Colman says. “But the work was so intensive and beautiful and working with Zendaya was one of the tremendous joys of my career. She’s so open and honest, and we had such a great chemistry together.”

He continues, “I loved that we left it with Ali’s purpose, with his hope, with his belief, his faith. Also with his idea of trying to right some wrongs in the world. He does it in a really harrowing way that may be questionable, but it’s for television.”

“But I think he was trying to be a good man and avenge his sort of surrogate daughter’s death,” he adds. “And try to make things right in the world and try to eviscerate the harms and the evils of the world when it comes to drugs.”

Zendaya is also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Rue in Euphoria. The show garnered seven Emmy nominations this year, including Outstanding Cinematography for a Series and Outstanding Contemporary Makeup.
