A local Illinois store is stepping into the spotlight after selling the ticket that won the $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot.
Manager Jon Marshall learned the 36th Street Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh in Quincy sold the winning ticket around 3 a.m. local time on Thursday, Aug. 13, he told officials with the Illinois Lottery.
That revelation was followed by another thought: he had also bought a Powerball ticket from teh store. “I then went to the kitchen to grab my ticket,” Marshall said, then added with a laugh, adding, “sadly, it wasn’t me.”
In fact, speaking with local station WGEM-TV, the manager said that every regular he’s talked to insists they didn’t win either.
“All my regulars are coming in saying ‘Not me, not me not me,’ ” he says, joking that they’re all “just sort of narrowing down [options] in our head on who we haven’t seen yet.”

Though he didn’t personally win the jackpot, there’s still a prize headed his way.
The Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh will receive a $500,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, which is an exciting turn of events for both the store and the community.
“We’re thrilled to know that a life-changing Powerball ticket was purchased at our Hy-Vee location, and we couldn’t be happier for whoever the lucky winner may be,” Marshall told lottery officials.
“I hope it’s someone from Quincy,” Marshall added, quipping that if so, “the winner will now be the richest person in town.”

The massive jackpot — secured by matching white balls 4, 26, 66, 67, 69 and red Powerball 9 — was the eighth largest lottery prize in history, and the second largest in the state.
The Powerball winner can either claim a lump sum payment of $450.5 million or receive the full amount in regular payments.
The winner has a year from the date of the drawing to come forward, but due to state law, we may never know the identify of the lucky ticket holder as lottery winners in Illinois are allowed to remain anonymous when accepting prizes over $250,000.
