Julia Whelan’s “Casanova LLC ”Is Getting a Print Release — See the Cover! (Exclusive)

Julia Whelan is expanding her literary universe. 

The author and acclaimed audiobook narrator has shared an exclusive first look at the deluxe print edition of Casanova LLC with PEOPLE. Kensington Books will publish the novel next year.

Whelan fans will recognize Casanova LLC from the author’s 2022 sophomore novel, Thank You for Listening, centered on audiobook narrators Sewanee Chester and Brock McNight. Casanova LLC is the fictional romance novel that the pair work on together.

“For comedic purposes, I settled on a premise that was, essentially, a Mad Libs of romance tropes: a second chance love story… with a gigolo… who happened to be descended from Giacomo Casanova,” Whelan tells PEOPLE of the novel-within-the-novel. Casanova LLC follows Alessandro, a descendant of the Casanova family who pines for a woman named Claire. 

Whelan didn’t originally intend to make Casanova a full story, but fans of Thank You for Listening encouraged her to continue.

“I hadn’t written spicy romance before, and the premise was so comically bonkers I was sure there was no way it could be taken seriously; hardly an auspicious beginning,” the author says. “But I do enjoy a challenge, especially of my own making, so I rolled up my sleeves and went at it.”

Whelan originally approached the project as an eight-episode audio series, which featured her narrator friends in voice roles and her husband as director. The Casanova LLC audio series, released in 2024, kicked off Audiobrary, Whelan’s publishing company and retailer.

“I was so focused on touting the value of audio that I frankly never considered the possibility of the book being in print,” Whelan says. “Then along came Kensington, which presented its vision for a print edition, and I went, oh, I am an idiot, this is perfect, let’s do it.”

“It’s so beautiful and sexy and unique and I can’t wait for this book to find a new audience,” the author adds.

Whelan notes that Casanova LLC feels even more relevant than it did in 2024, particularly as we navigate “definitions of masculinity and the quest for real human connection and integrity in this age of replication, division and digital relationships.”

“As a writer, I can’t start working on a book until I know what it’s about,” Whelan says. “Not just theme or subject matter or character arcs, but literally one word that boils all of those elements down.”

“What began as a lark became an intricate and deeply intimate exploration of how two people’s most broken parts could perfectly fit together and, as a result, make them whole,” she adds. “Trust me, I’m more surprised by the outcome than anyone.”

Casanova LLC will be published on March 30, 2027 and is now available for preorder, wherever books are sold.
