Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever revisited their relationship, which unfolded just months before Wilson murdered two women in a single day. 

Lozada met Wilson on a dating app in late 2018, around the same time he began seeing Kelly Matthews, another Palm Beach, Fla., resident. Though Lozada suspected he was cheating, Wilson insisted Matthews was only his roommate.

In January 2019, Lozada moved to the Florida Keys, and Wilson joined her about a month later. The arrangement didn’t last long, and Wilson soon moved out. Not long after, he stopped communicating with Lozada altogether.

Lozada later learned that Wilson had allegedly assaulted Matthews before moving in with her. Then, in October 2019, she saw him on the news after he was arrested for the murders of Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz.

Who is Courtney Lozada? 

Lozada is one of Wilson’s former girlfriends. She was 26 when they started dating, and she had just moved to Loxahatchee, Fla., a rural community in Palm Beach.

In Worst Ex Ever, Lozada didn’t reveal what she did for work, but she said she rarely saw Wilson because of her busy schedule.

How did Courtney Lozada and Wade Wilson meet? 

Wilson and Lozada matched on the dating app Plenty of Fish in late September or early October 2018, and their first date took place at a park in West Palm Beach.

“When I first saw Wade, I was like, ‘Wow, he’s really attractive, really good looking, really tall and he had a nice voice,’ ” Lozada recalled in Worst Ex Ever, adding that their meetup involved “a lot of joking [and] laughing.”

She also shared that Wilson claimed his “only flaw was that he didn’t have a good woman in his life.”

What happened between Courtney Lozada and Wade Wilson? 

Wilson began dating Matthews around the same time he connected with Lozada. In November 2018, Lozada noticed an Instagram user named “Pinup Princess” commenting on his posts.

“I found out that Pinup Princess was Kelly [Matthews] and also the girl who was in his phone under ‘K,’ ” she recalled.

When Lozada confronted Wilson, he claimed Matthews was only his roommate. In reality, the two were seriously dating, and Wilson had moved in with Matthews about a month into their relationship.

Believing him, Lozada continued seeing Wilson, though much of their relationship played out over texts and phone calls. She said he would often disappear for days at a time, later claiming he had simply been busy.

In January 2019, Lozada moved to the Florida Keys to live with her sister. About a month later, Wilson asked if he could move in with her. She agreed and picked him up at a gas station near her home on Feb. 19 after a friend drove him down from Palm Beach.

That friend was Matthews, whom Wilson had allegedly physically and sexually assaulted earlier that evening.

“I didn’t see anything off about Kelly. I didn’t see anything off about him either,” Lozada said in Worst Ex Ever. “What he told me was that she was just doing him a favor [by] dropping him off. If I knew that he did anything to her … if I would have seen her bloody, bruised, or anything like that, I would not have taken him to my house.”

Matthews reported the alleged assault to Palm Beach police, and Detective Louis Potter was assigned to the case. Lozada’s sister, Brittney, later informed Potter of Wilson’s location, per Fort Myers News-Press.

Wilson spoke with Potter and denied Matthews’ allegations. The detective closed the case before Wilson’s DNA results were returned, claiming there was not enough evidence to move forward.

Not long after, Lozada’s sister asked her to move out.

“After I moved, we talked on the phone, and then I couldn’t get a hold of him,” Lozada said. “The phone was off. I just realized that he ghosted me.”

Lozada never heard from Wilson again, but in October 2019, she saw him on the news after he was arrested for the murders of Melton and Ruiz.

“I started watching the news, and my heart dropped,” Lozada recalled on Worst Ex Ever. “[I thought], ‘It had to have been someone else. It can’t be him. He’s not that type of person. Yeah, he cheats, but he’s not a murderer.’ “
