Inspired by the Shakespeare play Love’s Labour’s Lost, the story, written by Claire Friedman, follows romance author Livia Gaines (Hawke), who’s been struggling to write ever since an unexpected breakup with her longtime boyfriend. When her publisher threatens to cancel her contract, Livia escapes to the Hamptons to try and finish her latest book in the privacy of a secluded house.

Joined by her friends, Livia vows to forgo real-life romance for the summer. But when a housesitting group arrives at the estate, Livia is reunited with Ezra Keats (Apa), her college crush who she’s never been able to forget.
As Labor Day approaches, Livia must grapple with her feelings for Ezra, a looming novel deadline and a shocking discovery made at the estate.

Hawke previously narrated the audiobook for Joan Didion’s essay collection Slouching Toward Bethlehem. The Stranger Things actress also lent her voice to the audio versions of James Ellroy’s novel American Tabloid and Alexi Pappas’ memoir Bravey.
