FOX 4 reported that the message was accompanied by a photograph of a knife.<\/p>\n<p>WFAA also reported that another message Anthony sent to his girlfriend stated, \u201cImma stab someone and lick the blood off the blade.\u201d The outlet did not specify when that message was sent.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/people.com\/thmb\/iakiGYzZpcFnrb4Vf_O_lN0ss38=\/fit-in\/1280x960\/Karmelo-Anthony-61126-6b663efeb6764101b324edfe82c5f58d.jpg\" alt=\"Karmelo AnthonyCredit: Texas Department of Criminal Justice\" title=\"Karmelo Anthony\" \/><figcaption><i>Karmelo Anthony<br \/>Credit: Texas Department of Criminal Justice<\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Less than two hours after the young woman allegedly told an assistant principal that she feared Anthony and that he would not take no for an answer, Anthony stabbed Metcalf in the chest during a confrontation beneath a tent at a Frisco, Texas, high school track meet, KERA reported.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony and Metcalf were both 17 at the time. Anthony, now 19, admitted stabbing Metcalf but maintained that he acted in self-defense after Metcalf confronted and shoved him.<\/p>\n<p>A jury rejected that argument, <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/karmelo-anthony-found-guilty-murder-stabbing-track-meet-11994275\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">convicting Anthony of murder<\/a> in June and <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/karmelo-anthony-sentenced-35-years-for-murder-of-austin-metcalf-11994582\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\">sentencing him to 35 years<\/a> in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Wirskye testified Thursday that the evidence concerning Anthony was withheld under an informal agreement between prosecutors and his trial attorneys, according to WFAA, FOX 4 and KERA.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement excluded potentially inflammatory character evidence about both Anthony and Metcalf and focused the trial on what happened beneath the tent.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors possessed material they said showed Anthony\u2019s interest in guns, knives and fighting. The defense had evidence of Metcalf\u2019s history of fighting and an offense report involving racist and antisemitic graffiti.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony\u2019s trial attorney, Mike Howard, testified that the graffiti included \u201cKKK,\u201d \u201cKill all Black people,\u201d the N-word and \u201cHeil Hitler,\u201d according to KERA.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony\u2019s new lawyers argue that the off-the-record agreement and restrictions on public access to the proceedings violated his constitutional rights. They also claim that a dispute over the agreement contributed to his decision not to testify without risking questions about the excluded material.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s hearing came one day after Judge John Roach Jr., who presided over Anthony\u2019s trial, was removed from the post-trial proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony\u2019s lawyers sought Roach\u2019s recusal after the judge gave a television interview shortly after the verdict and said the jury \u201cgot it right,\u201d per earlier PEOPLE reporting.<\/p>\n<p>Retired Kaufman County Judge Michael Chitty is now overseeing Anthony\u2019s request for a new trial.
