It centers on its young titular character \u2014\u00a0played by Mason Reeves in her feature film debut \u2014\u00a0who is the sole witness to a horrific crime in San Francisco\u2019s Golden Gate Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/people.com\/thmb\/ek__l3sZ-bqyYu9Fp3vw6ZJTkYQ=\/fit-in\/1280x960\/josephine-channing-gemma-081026-5cc79c0be0f6458cb264dac8db923c75.jpg\" alt=\"Gemma Chan, Mason Reeves and Channing Tatum appear in JosephineCredit: Greta Zozula\/Sumerian Pictures\/Courtesy of Sundance Institute\" title=\"Gemma Chan, Mason Reeves and Channing Tatum appear in Josephine.\" \/><figcaption><i>Gemma Chan, Mason Reeves and Channing Tatum appear in Josephine<br \/>Credit: Greta Zozula\/Sumerian Pictures\/Courtesy of Sundance Institute<\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tatum and <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/gemma-chan-minimalist-style-new-diablo-iv-role-8350451\" data-type=\"\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gemma Chan<\/a> play the girl\u2019s parents, who \u201cstruggle with helping their daughter cope while facing their own fears around the topic and how to address it with their child,\u201d per an official synopsis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the newly released trailer suggests, de Ara\u00fajo tells young Josephine\u2019s story from her childlike perspective. \u201cJosephine, you can look just at me,\u201d says Eleanore Pienta, in close-up as a counselor guiding the girl through the trial following the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook me in the eye and swear to me that you\u2019re telling the truth,\u201d Tatum, 46, can be seen telling the protagonist, crouched down at her level.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Josephine<\/em> costars Philip Ettinger as the perpetrator of the crime, plus Michael Angelo Covino, Dana Millican and Syra McCarthy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The movie\u2019s trailer lists some of the descriptors of the breakout performance from Reeves, who was eight when filming.
