Along with his fellow Avengers, Liu\u2019s character joins the Fantastic Four and the X-Men for the first time in the highly anticipated forthcoming film \u2014\u00a0and the unique combination of Marvel stars has led to more than a few surreal moments.<\/p>\n<p>Liu says the most exciting moments on the set of <em>Doomsday <\/em>were when he was hanging out and working alongside the actors behind <em>X-Men<\/em> characters Professor X and Magneto, played by <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/patrick-stewart\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">Patrick Stewart<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/sir-ian-mckellen\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\">Sir Ian McKellen<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/people.com\/thmb\/xVWYSw-TVEEZ_FrBamXbYq718OU=\/fit-in\/1280x960\/Patrick-Stewart-Ian-McKellan-032625-7439e0ce614f4f88931acb5217804b9e.jpg\" alt=\"Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.Credit: Frazer Harrison\/WireImage; Alan Chapman\/Dave Benett\/WireImage\" title=\"Patrick Stewart; Ian McKellen \" \/><figcaption><i>Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.<br \/>Credit: Frazer Harrison\/WireImage; Alan Chapman\/Dave Benett\/WireImage<\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cFor me, it\u2019s Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen &#8230; not just for their roles in X-Men, which are so iconic, but I also grew up just a massive <em>[Star Trek] Next Generation<\/em> super-nerd, and <em>Lord of the Rings<\/em> as well,\u201d he tells PEOPLE. Stewart starred in the <em>Star Trek<\/em> series as Jean-Luc Picard, while McKellen starred as Gandalf in the screen adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien\u2019s books.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo just getting to talk to them, getting to hang on set with them in between takes, it was the most starstruck I\u2019ve ever been,\u201d Liu adds.<\/p>\n<p><em>Avengers: Doomsday <\/em>has been a thrilling ride for Liu, he says. In addition to experiencing \u201cthis overwhelming sense of joy\u201d when first reading the scripts, learning how his character would finally interact with beloved Marvel superheroes who Liu had \u201cbeen watching as a fan for over 25 years\u201d was especially surreal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like that feeling of being in a sandbox and playing with all these action figures when you\u2019re really young,\u201d Liu explains. \u201cIt was that feeling, except now you\u2019re one of the action figures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The actor learned he\u2019d be a part of <em>Doomsday <\/em>\u201cliterally from the moment\u201d <em>Shang-Chi <\/em>came out in 2021, but the pieces only began falling into place early last year.
