She discovered her passion for running at age eight, a natural talent that allowed her to achieve her dreams of competing \u2014 and medaling \u2014at the highest level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got the opportunity to travel and represent my country,\u201d she recalls of her 8-year-old self at the start of her track and field career. \u201cI saw that there\u2019s more to this small little community in the valley. Then you look at all of that, and you\u2019re like, \u2018It\u2019s taking so much.\u2019 And then you get to the big moments and it\u2019s not what you expected,\u201d Junelle says of winning bronze in the 4 x 400-meter relay at the Tokyo Olympics that year.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/people.com\/thmb\/DT85F8ZN_qtg_kKdg2bA1foZYGQ=\/fit-in\/1280x960\/Junelle-Lyles-04-073026-6dc8970e755e403c8f547034ae6ca4a1.jpg\" alt=\"Junelle Lyles on set of PEOPLE\u2019s \u201cWAG World\u201d series.Credit: Astrid Stawiarz\" title=\"Junelle Lyles visits PEOPLE for a taping of WAG WORLD on July 21, 2026 in New York City\" \/><figcaption><i>Junelle Lyles on set of PEOPLE\u2019s \u201cWAG World\u201d series.<br \/>Credit: Astrid Stawiarz<\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Junelle then took \u201ca leap of faith\u201d and moved to the United States in 2022, finding love and support in Noah\u2019s family, particularly his mom, Keisha Caine Bishop, a former All-American track and field athlete who competed at Seton Hall University in New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMs. Keisha, Noah\u2019s mom&#8230; she invited me into her home and the whole family accepted me,\u201d she says. \u201cIt was just so much love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are amazing people, I must say, because when I moved to America, I did not know anything about America, really. I was living in Jamaica for all of my life,\u201d Junelle continues. \u201cI was supposed to move to a place that was like 30 minutes away from Noah. I did not drive. We\u2019ve been friends since 2017, really, really good friends,\u201d she says. \u201cI would say that worked out pretty well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Noah, who uses his platform to advocate for mental health, inspired Junelle to start therapy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would consider myself very strong. I\u2019ve had a lot of loss, as I said before. I never went to therapy, so I just kept on being the strong one, especially in my family \u2014 and Noah knew that,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen I came over, I had moments where like, it\u2019d be October, and I\u2019m like, \u2018I don\u2019t like October. A bunch of bad things always happen in October.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he\u2019s like, \u2018That\u2019s not a mindset to have. Things come in seasons, life comes in seasons. We need to fix that.
