Jordan as Crockett\u2019s partner, Ricardo Tubbs<\/li>\n<li>The Joseph Kosinski-directed film is inspired by the original 1980s crime series and is scheduled to hit theaters May 19, 2028<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/austin-butler\/\" data-type=\"\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Austin Butler<\/a> is stepping into the role of one of television\u2019s most recognizable detectives.<\/p>\n<p>The actor, 35, has been spotted in character as James \u201cSonny\u201d Crockett for the first time as filming gets underway on <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/miami-vice-remake-top-gun-maverick-director-11723691\" data-type=\"\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Miami Vice \u201985<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Universal Pictures unveiled a <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DeZL3YiyVa8\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;psln=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==\" data-type=\"\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">photo of Butler<\/a> in character on Monday, Oct. 12. \u201cAustin Butler is Crockett. Jordan<\/a> as Crockett\u2019s partner, Ricardo Tubbs. \u201cMichael B. Jordan is Tubbs. Miami Vice \u201985 &#8211; now in production,\u201d Universal wrote in the caption of <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DeZJJ_sydhq\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;obrf=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==\" data-type=\"\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jordan\u2019s photo<\/a>. In the photo, the <em>Creed <\/em>actor, 39, is in character holding a gun and wearing an all-black look including a leather trench coat over a matching shirt and tie.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming film is a new take on the hit <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/where-is-miami-vice-cast-now-11945926\" data-type=\"\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1980s NBC crime drama<\/a>, which starred Don Johnson as Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Tubbs.
