He was found by Michigan State Police troopers and backpackers 11 days later, on Sept. 12.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The hiker opened up about what he went through in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/world\/for-11-days-a-lost-hiker-shouted-for-help-then-two-kayakers-appeared\/IXUPTROI6ZH4XLISBV4LK7YENU\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\"><em>The Zealand Herald<\/em><\/a>, estimating that he probably shouted the words \u201cHelp! I\u2019m lost!\u201d about 10,000 times.<\/p>\n<p>Berg arrived for his trip on Aug. 27 and says he got lost on a trail four days later\u2014 and after falling into a swamp that he fell in a swamp that was \u201clike quicksand,\u201d he lost his phone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/people.com\/thmb\/ak9jiGTDDcjNVrLcNFkgZMhHtkQ=\/fit-in\/1280x960\/craig-berg-found-remote-island-091426-2461dc19e04f4e3aa70ea6aa1e45724b.jpg\" alt=\"Craig Berg.Credit: Berg Family\" title=\"Craig Berg, 70, of Royal Oak, Michigan, is pictured with his dog. Berg went missing while on a solo hiking trip at Isle Royale National Park and was found alive and alert on September 12 after a week-long search.\" \/><figcaption><i>Craig Berg.<br \/>Credit: Berg Family<\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Over the next 11 days, the hiker survived on his limited supply of freeze-dried food and by drinking \u201cthe most disgusting water that you could imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At times, he recalled only being able to eat every other day due to dwindling supplies, running out of fuel for his camp stove and drinking from \u201ca little pond that moose drank from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, he had chlorine tablets to treat the water.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the day the man was found, he heard noises coming from a nearby lake.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Berg shouted, once more, \u201cHelp! I\u2019m lost,\u201d and two men in kayaks found him. Mentally, I\u2019m still processing.
