Like Jaxson, Brandon played collegiate football and was \u201celated and happy\u201d when his son\u2019s talent was finally recognized.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew he was going to be able to get opportunities he always wished for,\u201d Jaxson\u2019s dad told <a class=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/2259862\/2020\/12\/16\/jaxson-dart-commitment-quarterback-recruiting\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"null\"><em>The Athletic<\/em><\/a> in December 2020. \u201cI just said [to him], \u2018It was your time to shine and you did everything you had worked so hard for.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brandon and Kara have another son, Diesel, who plays high school football, as well as two daughters, who were all born and raised in their home state of Utah, where Kara runs a fitness program. He attended Northridge High School in Layton, per <a class=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/utahutes.com\/news\/1999\/7\/14\/dart_is_granted_two_more_years_eligibility_by_ncaa\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"null\">University of Utah Athletics<\/a>, and she went to Weber High School in Pleasant View, according to <a class=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/high-school\/national\/jaxson-dart-s-path-to-the-nfl-draft-started-taking-shape-in-high-school-01js1ktmp5n7\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"null\"><em>Sports Illustrated<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Brandon played football, basketball, baseball and ran track in high school. Kara ran track as well and played volleyball. In June 2026, he committed to the University of Utah\u2019s Utes, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZvmU70GIBm\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">his Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Brandon played football at the University of Utah<\/h2>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/people.com\/thmb\/8HS5cwqCiXVoCllMzse1LR1O0F8=\/fit-in\/1280x960\/jaxson-dart-parents-dad-brandon-dart-football-092625-89702f87649b4ab293866ee74024eb0b.jpg\" alt=\"Brandon Dart (R) during a game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TexasCredit: Brian Bahr\/Allsport via Getty\" title=\"Brandon Dart (R) during a game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.\" \/><figcaption><i>Brandon Dart (R) during a game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas<br \/>Credit: Brian Bahr\/Allsport via Getty<\/i><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He played football at the the University of Utah from 1994 to 1996 and then from 1999 to 2000, after he was allowed two extra years of eligibility via the NCAA, per <a href=\"https:\/\/utahutes.com\/news\/1999\/7\/14\/dart_is_granted_two_more_years_eligibility_by_ncaa\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">the school<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He struggled with injuries in his first two years and was redshirted before returning the following year to start 10 games and become the team\u2019s second-leading tackler with 96 total stops and 15 tackles for loss.<\/p>\n<p>After returning from an injury, he told the <a class=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/1999\/9\/15\/19465771\/dart-cross-your-fingers-might-play\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"null\"><em>Deseret News<\/em><\/a> in September 1999, \u201cI try to put things in perspective, and I know that everyone has their trials &#8230; I would take my shortcomings before something happening to my family or friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brandon was on the Academic Honor Roll during his time in school and said he wanted to become a dentist at the time.<\/p>\n<h2>Brandon is an entrepreneur and Kara runs a fitness program<\/h2>\n<p>Brandon is an entrepreneur and owns Dartco Masonry, according to <a class=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/brandon-dart-8315196b\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"null\">his LinkedIn<\/a>. Kara stays active and has detailed her fitness program on her private Instagram account.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, she suffered a major injury to her foot that meant she wasn\u2019t able to exercise as normal. She wrote on Instagram at the time that she wouldn\u2019t be able to take part in the <a class=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/70-year-old-running-boston-marathon-with-his-broadway-performer-son-exclusive-11927584\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"null\">Boston Marathon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last month has been a whirlwind. I realized my injury was quite severe, had major foot and ankle surgery, and now I am 16 days post-surgery with a hard cast,\u201d she wrote, per <a href=\"https:\/\/thespun.com\/nfl\/nfl-rookie-quarterbacks-mom-trending-before-his-debut-sunday\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\">The Spun<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kara continued, \u201cI have been \u2018running\u2019 to some degree for as long as I can remember. Sprinting, flipping, jumping, and then gradually transitioning into distance running. Discussing a pep talk he\u2019d given to his son, Brandon recalled, \u201cI just said, \u2018Jaxson, let me tell you something about football. Football is not a movie. Football\u2019s not a fairytale. And the best teams don\u2019t always win, and the best players don\u2019t always perform when they absolutely have to. That\u2019s just what it is. And you can\u2019t look at it as a failure because there were so many great things that happened along the way.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kara has also given Jaxson support and constructive feedback.<\/p>\n<p>Brandon added, \u201cI just remember walking in the house and [Brandon] at the kitchen table and she\u2019s kind of giving it to him, like, \u2018Jax, you had a chance at that point in time to blow that dude up. We don\u2019t take the easy way out.\u2019 And he\u2019s kind of sitting there like, \u2018Okay mom, okay, okay.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>In August 2024, Jaxson told <a class=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/jaxson-dart-ole-miss-interview\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"null\"><em>GQ<\/em><\/a> about his mom, \u201cWhen I\u2019m walking through the Walk of Champions, I\u2019ll go see her, give her a hug, and she\u2019ll try to hype me up. But after every little interaction, she always reminds me to slide. That\u2019s her go-to every single time.
